American Alligator Alligator mississippiensis

Least
Concern

The American alligator loses its teeth as it wears them down. One alligator can go through over 3,000 teeth in a lifetime!

Diet:
Alligators are carnivores, and they’re not picky! They’ll eat nearly anything that comes near the water, including birds, frogs, fish, and small mammals.
Habitat:
American alligators can be found in many aquatic environments. They prefer slow-moving brackish water, which mixes saltwater and freshwater. Places with lots of brackish water include swamps and marshes.

Our American alligator, Little Boy, can often be spotted sunbathing below the Tuskers overlook deck.
